The Nutrition Center (TNC) is a nonprofit organization inspiring a healthy relationship with food through counseling, cooking classes, education, and programs for all ages. Their nutritionists work with individuals and families to integrate health and enjoyment into the daily food experience. They are now seeing patients in their Pittsfield office at 42 Summer Street. The nutrition counseling is reimbursed by medical insurance. Food Adventures is an in-school cooking and nutrition program providing education to students about nutrition and healthy food choices in a fun, hands-on environment. The Nutrition Center has delivered 300 Food Adventure classes in Berkshire County. Students work in teams to prepare a healthy food, while learning about nutrition, food safety, how to make balanced food choices, and the value of local farms and food producers in our community. The program allows conceptual nutrition education to come to life and empower children to make healthy lifestyle choices. Food Adventures is supported by tax-deductible contributions and grants. Our purpose is to facilitate enjoyment and curiosity about where food comes from, how it is prepared, the eating experience, and how these processes relate to health and well-being. $25 will provide a garden plot for a community member to grow their own food.
$50 makes it possible for someone without insurance to have one follow-up nutrition counseling visit or cooking lesson. $100 provides one initial nutrition counseling visit and one follow-up nutrition counseling visit for someone without insurance. $250 provides full support for one Food Adventures class. $500 provides long-term curriculum development for Food Adventures, evaluation, and follow-up with our partner teachers in area schools. $1000 provides four Food Adventures classes!
